About Imperial County

Imperial County is home to approximately 180,000 residents which live and work within its seven cities (Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial and Westmorland) and eight unincorporated communities (Bombay Beach, Heber, Niland, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Salton City, Seeley and Winterhaven). The county is the ninth largest California County, encompassing 4,284 square miles. There are seven publicly owned airports located in Imperial County, including: Brawley Municipal Airport (BWC), Calexico International Airport (CXL), Cliff Hatfield Memorial Airport (CLR), Holtville Airport (L04), Imperial County Airport (IPL), Salton Sea Airport (SAS), and Naval Air Facility El Centro.

About the Study

The Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) update will replace the current ALUCP which was adopted in 1996. The ALUCP acts as a general guide for determining compatible land uses and mitigating potential adverse impacts around the county’s publicly owned airports. The ALUCP plays an important role in shaping the future of the community; it serves as the officially adopted guide for County and airport policy decisions relating to development around the airports, and addresses the challenges, goals, actions, policies, and strategies for such development.

Public Involvement

The approach to public involvement for this study is multi-faceted. Imperial County has assembled a Planning Advisory Committee (PAC), which is a group of airport stakeholders, community leaders, and others to assist in the development of the study. The PAC will be convened for four (4) meetings to review draft chapters as developed by the consultant team. The same draft chapters that the PAC reviews will also be posted to this project website.

There will be two (2) public information workshops (PIW) and one (1) public hearing during the study process. The workshops will be conducted in an open-house format where the public can visit with the project team and ask any questions they may have related to the project. The workshops are typically scheduled in the early evening to allow those heading home from work to stop by or to allow others to come after the dinner hour. The date and time of the workshops will be advertised locally and posted on this project website.

Interested citizens are encouraged to provide comments and suggestions to the project team by utilizing the “Comment” feature below. Comment sheets are provided during the PAC and the public information workshops. Direct communication with the project managers via phone or email is also acceptable.
